Ektar 100

A new lens (a Canon 100mm f/2.8), a roll of Ektar 100 and evening light makes for a nice setup. Two parades make great subjects.

Ektar is my favorite film. Producing color and depth that cannot be recreated in digital cameras; it’s why to shoot film. I’m not the only one that thinks this way.

Perhaps Ektar 100 is the film I’ll use when I know I want to get the colors and emotion right.

All shots with the Canon AE-1 Program.

IPhone Photography Awards

The 2019 iPhone Photography Awards were announced. Founded in 2007, the iPhone Photography Awards remind us that the camera that we have in our pockets can create compelling images.

Here’s some of my iPhone images from the past few weeks.

Week Six

July 20 – 26, 2019

Two parades and a band jam. Summer is making an appearance; though not with oppressive heat like so much of Western Europe.

I’m waiting for another roll of Ektar 100 to come back from the developer. Used the Cannon AE1 with an FD 100 f/2.8. Should have the scans back in a few days.

Here are this week’s photos:

From the Archives

My first Fuji X Series camera was the x100s. Something about the color rendering…I miss that camera.

Kodak Portra 800

In the predigital era I shot hundreds of rolls of Kodak Portra film. Mostly 400, but sometimes 800. A nice discussion of the two can be found here.

People, especially with sunset light, looked (looks?) incredible.

For two years I’ve had a partially shot roll of Portra 800 in my Cannon AE-1 Program. I finally picked up the camera and finished the roll. The scans came back today.

First, I’d say that letting the film sit in the camera for two years is probably not optimal. Second, shooting the film in bright midday sun is not a good idea.

Here are a few of the shots:

West Seattle Parade

Summer in Seattle is Seafair. Beginning in early July and culminating with the Torchlight Parade, several Seattle communities host parades. The Seattle All City Band draws me to many of them.

This past week we were at West Seattle, Olympia, White Center and Chinatown.

The photos below all come from my Fuji x100f and were shot in jpeg only with the Astia film simulation.

Week Five

Four office shots are not indicative of the week’s productivity. A parade in Redmond, a trip to British Columbia and even a short walk through Carkeek Park produced many keepers.

Even the office shots, done in Acros, are worthwhile.

I’ve got some undeveloped film as well.

Week Four

Photos everyday, but one day only one. Not posting it.

The week started at a lavender festival. Ferry ride to Kingston. Wineries. Cloudy, but nice light to shoot jpegs (Acros, Classic Chrome).

Some rain this week. Cooler still. Hope we avoid the fires and smoke like we’ve had for the past two years.
