Woke up thinking I took no shots this week. Checked the camera and remembered the snow. That’s what cameras and pictures can do; help unleash those memories. That mine were only a few days old and lost tells me…what?
Delayed starts to school earlier in the week. Wednesday was cancelled all together.
Not many shots to pick from this week. Cold pushes me inside.
Another week. This time we click over the calendar to a new year and a new decade. Twenty years now since the y2k “scare;” since we partied like it’s 1999.
This week’s photos feature some scans from a roll of Ilford HP5 400 shot at Fisherman’s Terminal. One from Chicago and one from an Uber ride return. Such a diverse set shows my rich and varied life. I am lucky.
I have over 800 film photos in my library for the past year. That’s prolific. Of course several days in Sicily with Ektar film helped with the totals.
With the digital shots it’s easy to pin the date of capture to the image. With film I get the date the image was scanned. So putting these in some kind of monthly order doesn’t make as much sense. Grouping them by camera or film type seems much more interesting.
I have only two film cameras: a Canon AE-1 Program and a Rollei 35 S. They both take great photos.
My favorite film is probably Ektar 100. But the weather, color and light most appropriate for Ektar is my favorite weather too. Maybe that clouds my judgement.
Anyway, here are twelve fifteen (I couldn’t drop any) film shots from 2019 that I especially enjoy:
So comes the end of the year. Even an end to the decade. Five more years and we are 1/4 of the way through the 21st century.
I went back through many of my photos from the past year. I was going to pick my favorite from each month. But what is a favorite? Mine change from day to day. Mostly I like the black and white shots. Especially if they are a bit dark and geometric. I don’t post photos of people (although I make an exception below). My favorite tonight-when I’m tired, when I’m just starting to put this together-could be looked at critically tomorrow. Why did I like this shot?
You are not here to read. You are here for photography. Here are my shots:
