Week 27 | December 14 – 20, 2019

Second to last week of 2019. More shots than last week. But now the rains have come.

I looked through the pictures, found several. Culled them down and now here we are; all from the same morning. All in Fremont.

Green Lake | JPEG Presets | Fuji x100f

Minimal Lightroom edits. Maybe I crop a bit or slightly adjust the exposure. I have no idea what are sliders or brushes. Clarity is what I get if I ponder for awhile. RAW is sushi.

A short trip to the old aqua park at Green Lake. Missed the Led Zeppelin concert by a half century. But got some nice captures using my new presets.

Shots are JPEG (Pro Neg High) (Monochrome-R) with some in camera adjustments. A bit of cropping.

Enough with the technical jargon, here they are:

Green Lake, Seattle. November 21, 2019. Fuji x100f. Pro Neg High.
Green Lake, Seattle. November 21, 2019. Fuji x100f. Pro Neg High.

Volunteer Park | JPEG Presets | Fuji x100f

Climate change? Days have been so bright my Norwegian clock thinks it’s summer time. The cold doesn’t lie. Snow reports and 4:30 sunsets bring me back to time.

On Thanksgiving weekend, I wandered over to Volunteer Park. Once or twice a year I’ll visit the Conservatory. The grounds have numerous old trees. The water tower is over 100 years old now. I remember visiting it when I was in preschool.

The following were all shot with the x100f using in camera presets. Post processed jpegs with minor edits. Usually some cropping. I like square images.

I don’t know the names of the plants.

Kittitas County | JPEG Presets | Fuji x100f

Working on my new jpeg settings. Shot some more in Kittitas County, Washington. Just outside of Ellensburg.

Lack the super contrast of the Padilla-style settings.

Ballard | JPEG presets | Fuji x100f

Among my three cameras is a Fuji x100f. Known for their film simulation jpegs, these retro looking cameras rekindled a love of photography for me after several years lugging around a Nikon DSLR.

Ninety-nine percent of my shots have been jpegs. Most of them using the Acros film settings. I borrowed heavily from Ritchie Roesch and his “film recipes.” But after a couple of years, I was ready for a change.

The photos below were taken on a short photo walk with a preset modeled after the work of Darcy Padilla and created by Kevin Mullins.

Settings follow the shots:

Ballard, Washington. November 14, 2019 Fuji x100f. Monochrome-R (Padilla).
Ballard, Washington. November 14, 2019. Fuji x100f. Monochrome-R (Padilla).
Ballard, Washington. November 14, 2019. Fuji x100f. Monochrome-R (Padilla).
Ballard, Washington. November 14, 2019. Fuji x100f. Monochrome-R (Padilla).
Ballard, Washington. November 14, 2019. Fuji x100f. Monochrome-R (Padilla).
Ballard, Washington. November 14, 2019. Fuji x100f. Monochrome-R (Padilla).

Film Simulation: Monochrome+R

DR: 100

WB: Auto

NR: 0

HTone: 0

STone: +3

Sharp: +1

I’ll give credit for the recipe to Kevin Mullins. I’ve actually made all the settings he advocates as my preset film simulations. Look for more in future posts!

Willamette University | Fuji x100f

Fall is always good for color. This year has been particularly good.

Fall is also a time for school and, for some of us, college visits.

We spent an afternoon at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. Temperatures in the sixties. I revamped my jpeg presets. The below are all based off the velvia film sim.

Here’s some of the shots:

Willamette University, Salem, Oregon. November 11, 2019. Fuji x100f.
Willamette University, Salem, Oregon. November 11, 2019. Fuji x100f.

Week 19 | October 19 – 25, 2019

No film this week. Some Astia jpgs with the x100f and even an edited iPhone pick.

I struggle with the color on the x100f. I wrestle with shooting RAW and using vsco presets. But I don’t want to get bogged down with more choices, more technology.

Anyway, here’s some shots from the past week:

Loyal Heights, Washington. October 19, 2019. Fuji x100f. Acros-R.
Fremont, Washington. October 24, 2019. Fuji x100f. Acros-R.
Ballard, Washington. October 25, 2019. Fuji x100f. Astia.
Ballard, Washington. October 25, 2019. Fuji x100f. Astia
Loyal Heights, Washington. October 25, 2019. iPhone 8 Plus.
Memorial Stadium, Seattle, Washington. October 25, 2019. Fuji x100f. Astia.
